"Just Keep 'Er Goin'... "

Keeping up with the rapidly morphing media landscape--as reflected in the worlds of websites, online video & more--can be almost as daunting (assuming you're paying attention to how fast things are changing) as trying to keep a good round going. A caddy once told me, "Just keep 'er goin'..." That's how it feels at the moment.

So much to share! In this issue, we offer a taste of what we've been going through as WordPress webmasters, a peek at the latest video production of which we are most proud, and some linky goodness that we're now calling "ComBridges' Link Connections."

If you'd prefer to read this newsletter on the Web, please click here to read the Web Version. Enjoy!

Locking In WordPress Security

Locking In WordPress Security

As active advocates of WordPress as a CMS (content management system) and blogging platform, we have to admit to being recently stretched by the expanding responsibilities of WordPress website maintenance, especially with regard to security.

Unfortunately, as some of you may have noticed, the ComBridges website was recently hacked (for a brief time there was a 'malware' warning on our blog) as were several of our clients' WordPress websites. This required expenses of time and money as well as new skill development with regards to quickly acquiring the skills and knowledge to implement additional server-side security measures.

As I can imagine somebody's grandmother saying, "Nothing comes without a price." In fact, in a very real way, this issue is part of the price of success of the WordPress platform. And, undaunted, we are still confident believers in WordPress as the state-of-the-art small business website publishing platform.

That said, a "word to the wise"... ComBridges clients, please watch for a special email on this subject soon and we are also planning a blog post in order to share some of what we have learned. Everybody else, please take care and make sure to stay on top of your WordPress software updates, file permissions and other security measures. And for those of you with a vested interest in WordPress, here are a couple of quick educational notes:

  • Anyone using the WordPress "lite" hosted version at WordPress.com does NOT need to worry about these security issues.
  • All webmasters should make sure to register their sites at Google Webmaster Tools. This is the fastest way to get an infection warning removed should an infection occur.
  • For those who may be looking for a quick overview of recommended WordPress security precautions, this slide show provides valuable insights: Click here to view "Protecting WordPress from the Inside Out"

Dry Run “Book Trailer” | New Client Video

Dry Run “Book Trailer” | New Client Video

We're pleased to share with you a creative video production success that also serves to shine a spotlight on an important environmental issue: In only 90-seconds, the video linked here captures the essence of our friend, client, and world class green building consultant, Jerry Yudelsons' latest book, "Dry Run: Preventing the Next Urban Water Crisis."

As mentioned last month, we now consider web video to be a "must have" for all business websites who are engaged in in-bound, social media marketing. This video also reflects our increasing online video distribution and promotion capabilities, and we are in the process of posting this video across the Internet in a variety of ways. (Please ask if you'd like to learn more about these kinds of service offerings.)

Stay tuned to our blog (are you a subscriber?) because Jon is already in production on a new video clip that illuminates the reasons why having video as an actively engaging part of your web presence is strategically no longer optional, at least in his expert opinion. Watch for that video via our blog, this newsletter, or the social media connections offered on ComBridges.com in the very near future.

ComBridges’ Link Connections

ComBridges’ Link Connections

If you follow Jon Leland's Twitter account, 'like' ComBridges' business-focused Facebook page, connect with Jon on LinkedIn, or subscribe to our YouTube channel, you know how much we love to share valuable information and insights.

In fact, our blog regularly offers posts that are packed with useful links that we are now un-officially naming: "ComBridges' Connections." (Oh yeah, you can subscribe to the ComBridges Blog by clicking on the "Subscribe by Email" or "Subscribe by RSS" links at the top of every blog page.)

Here's a link to an example of that kind of 'connected' blog post as well as a particularly popular video commentary that Jon offered recently as the New Media / New Marketing authority on TheTVNews.tv:

Thanks for reading! We look forward to hearing from you via ANY channel at ANY time. ;)
